The Brazilian World Cup winner has had a superb debut season in Spain after rejecting a move to Manchester United last summer, and is said to be the target of top clubs across Europe.
Real Madrid are long-term admirers, yet according to Barcelona vice-president Sandro Rossell, it is Chelsea and billionaire owner Roman Abramovich who have made the first move.
"Chelsea have offered him a good contract," Rosell said. "We don't know anything but we know that the player will want to stay at Barca. We will put the highest clause on him so that no club can pay it.”
If the Londoners have indeed offered Ronaldinho a contract, they may well find themselves in bother with UEFA for approaching him without seeking permission from Barcelona.
